Joseph Stalin was born on December 18, 1879 in Gori, Georgia. His father was Besarion Jughashvili and his mother, Ketevan Geladze. His real name was Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili, and later changed to Joseph Stalin. He was a Dictator during the times of the Russian revolution, he ruled the Soviet Union for about two decades.
Joseph Stalin was a sensitive kid, physically and mentally. He always got sick and injured himself, the children in the village bullied him and treated him cruelly, this gave him the initiative to fight for respect. His mother, wanted him to be a priest so in 1888 he took him to church school. Stalin was an “A” student, which lead him into a scholarship in Tiflis Theological Seminary in 1894, a year after this, he contacted a secret organization which supported the Georgian independence from Russia. He joined this group in 1898 and he got to know some of the socialists members such as, Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin. In 1899, Stalin excelled in seminary school but he was suggested to leave since he couldn’t afford to pay and his political ideas deferred from the ideas of catholicism.
In 1901, Stalin joined the “Social Democratic Labor Party” and worked for them. In 1902, he was arrested and it was during this time that he adopted the name of "Stalin", meaning steel in Russian. Joseph Stalin excelled in the basic operations of the revolution, calling meetings, publishing leaflets and organizing strikes and demonstrations. In 1922, Stalin was named general secretary of the communist party, this permitted him to control over all party member appointments and this helped him to gain control little by little. In 1924, he took complete control over the party and decided that the country should move away from agriculture and become industrialized.
After the start of WWII, Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler created and alliance, but Hitler didn’t like Stalin so he planned a secret attack on the Soviet Union, this attack took place in 1941. To be able to fight the Germans, Stalin joined Britain and the United States, the Germans were defeated. After World War II, Stalin set up governments in the European countries that the Soviet Union had "freed" from Germany. Joseph Stalin died in March 5, 1953 because of health problems and he is now remembered as one of the most brutal leaders in World History.
